The Creative Eclectic Home Of Zac & Connor (& Dallas the Poodle!)

When our customers are happy we are happy... and receiving photos of your finished rooms is always a pleasure. It really is fantastic to see our plaster ceiling roses and coving painted and styled in individual ways. This individuality is evident in the images sent by Zac & Connor, who have embraced the classic, and modern to create a truly magnificent blend that is visually stunning.

Zac Pearmine and Connor Warren have been our loyal customers since 2021 and have purchased many roses and coving for their home in Ryde, Isle of Wight. Ryde is a fantastic place that combines unique shops, nights out, golden sands and creative hearts... a quirky fact is Ryde is said to have inspired the Beatles hit ‘Ticket To Ride’ after a trip was made by McCartney and Lennon in the early sixties. This is also the perfect location for Zac & Connor’s business, The Velvet Pig!

The Velvet Pig is a treasure ‘trough’ on the hill. An island based vintage clothes boutique, specialising in an eclectic mix of hand-picked sustainable vintage which was honoured in The Telegraph’s Top 50 UK Boutiques. It’s certainly the place to go to for vintage Gucci bags, quirky needlepoint cushions, Hermès collectable scarfs and rare Dior statement pieces. The duo are well known for their incredible window displays and last year received a great big tip o’ the hat from the Queen of retail, Mary Portas.

Together, Zac & Connor have transformed an unloved Georgian house into a home that oozes personality, style and the unique, especially with their creative skillset and ability to pull a room together using colour, texture, pattern and Mid century decor accessories. We also love how their use of colour throughout their home creates pockets of interest that allow the eye to linger before moving on to the next.

They recently finished the lounge after hoarding an obscene amount of vintage prints, vases, glass and ornaments. These are finally out on show. We have to agree that there is no such thing as ‘too much’, this is a Maximalist interior designer's dream. During the renovation Connor was overjoyed to discover original Georgian floorboards hidden under a ‘fugly carpet’!

Zac & Connor were kind enough to answer a few questions regarding their coving and ceiling rose choice, which may be insightful to fellow interior design enthusiasts.

What inspires your style?

We find inspiration for our style from all over. We love the 1960’s Palm beach, and Palm Springs decor, as well as more traditional decor from the Georgian and Victorian era, and love a mix of different styles while decorating. We buy items that we love, not necessarily what is trendy, to create rooms that we love and reflect our personalities.

What inspired you to purchase coving / ceiling roses?

We adore original features, and by purchasing gypsum plaster ceiling roses, coving and mouldings, we feel it’s an easy and very effective way of restoring original beauty back into a home, especially features that have previously been removed.

When did you buy your property/ what state was it in?

We bought our home in August 2021 and it was a full renovation, it was in quite a sorry state, but we loved the house and knew we had to get it back to its former glory.

How would you describe your interior design style?

Our interior design style is a mix of everything we love, from Mediterranean/ Italian decor, mid century pieces, to more traditional Victorian and Georgian pieces. We love to mix old and new and we just buy what we love.

How has coving enhanced the overall look and feel of your home?

Coving has restored the traditional grand feel to a lot of our rooms and spaces. We admire these details and it makes the spaces more interesting to look at.

How did you decide on the size and style of coving that would best compliment your room?

We have many different ceiling heights in our home, from 8 feet in the smallest rooms, up to 14 feet in the bigger rooms. So we based our coving size on the ceiling height, and proportions of the room. We love ornate plaster so we tried to go as big as the spaces would allow. The same goes for our ceiling roses, we tried to have the biggest rose possible in each room, to create a focal point, but still allowing a good amount of space between the rose and coving.

We also used the convenient coving samples service that you offer - we ordered a few types in various designs and sizes. We were surprised to receive ‘good sized’ chunks, and these were really useful as we were then able to make confident decisions.

Are there any specific rooms or areas in your home where you find coving particularly effective or impactful?

The most impactful rooms in terms of coving and ceiling roses to me are firstly the main bedroom, as it is something beautiful to look at while laying bed. The main bedroom is quite long, so we decided to have two matching ceiling roses in this room so that we could have two pendants, and it also felt more proportional. Secondly we find coving and ceiling roses very impactful in the kitchen, we spend a lot of our time in this room with friends and family so it is something beautiful for them and ourselves to look at every day. We wanted quite an impactful pendant in our kitchen, and we feel that the ceiling rose really frames it and adds so much more impact.

We haven’t yet completed our dining room ceiling, but we plan on having this ceiling as the most ornate in the house, which we really look forward to completing.

Thank you Zac & Connor for your valued custom and for sharing your beautiful eclectic home. It’s a riot of colour, pattern, art, and textures, glammed up with a rock and roll vibe... a boho luxe interior. We should all follow your ethos, ‘Design your home for yourself and not for others’.
